A Sample of Savannah

The infamous Mercer House.

We watched Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (Clint Eastwood's first movie and a bit of a bore) upon our return to Minnesota. Read the book! It is much more scintillating, and it depicts more than the story of Jim Williams and the Mercer House, it reveals Savannah's delicious core.

Last week, I explained that my feelings for Charleston and Savannah resulted in an even tie. It’s a tough call: Savannah, verdant squares populated by ancient oaks dripping with moss, tourists, spirits—both liquid and ethereal—compelling characters wrangling to-go cups, oddball personalities, and lots of canines. Plus, everything else: pecans, gumbo, architecture, riverboats, pigs and shrimp, history.

Georgia's oldest city is the bird girl statue, balancing good and evil with Southern charm and finesse.

Follow our feet..

EShaver Books

We were grasshoppered at Forsythe. That's what we call the woven grass arts, ever since we received a grasshopper in Central America.

Our hopper from Granada, Nicaragua.

Colonial Cemetery.

The psychic is in!

The Andrew Low House

A square complete with a tour bus rounding the bend.

The Armstrong House. (also featured in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil) Plus an expensive old pig!

Stay tuned for more from South Carolina and Georgia!

We enjoyed our visit to Savannah . The gracious charming Old South where it’s easy to forget about the not so charming parts. agree with you about “Garden…” book vs movie .

Savannah looks delightful - I've never been there, but I do have friends who used to live here in Jeddah who now live there. Maybe I should visit? Love the grass arts and your collages.

Sharon - we took a family vacation to Savannah 6 or 7 years ago, and I know that we saw the Mercer House and the Andrew Low House. You described the character and vibe of the city perfectly. Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday, and bringing back such pleasant memories!

Places I've never been to, and probably won't have the chance to visit, yet it's a great pleasure to read your post about them, and especially see the photos. Your collage at the end of the post is a great review of the main points in your tour!

Beautiful photos! I love Savannah and Charleston too. I think maybe Charleston may have a slight edge only because I found a better place to run there. Oh, the FOOD in both places!!!

I'm fascinated with the colonial cemetery. Your photo captures some wonderful textures. A visit to the psychic would be interesting!

We rented a historic home in Savannah and spent a week just walking everywhere exploring the city. We took the tour of the "midnight of good and evil" house. Just loved it!
