Convento de las Capuchinas Ruins

We visited four ruin sites while in Antigua, Guatemala last January. The first was Casa Santo Domingo - from my post Travel Tales from the Crypt. We visited the former Capuchinas Convent right after that. It was a lot of crumbling corridors to roam, in such a short time. But intriguing nonetheless.

Nuns wandered up and down Capuchinas Convent from 1736 -1773, until an Earthquake caused upheaval throughout the city. Take a stroll with us...

A lonely and stiff nun still holds vigil in one of the cells. (yes, that's what they were/are called) Sign me up. I'm ready to serve. Not.

Another stiff!

Beautiful Crumbles.

The cobblestone streets of Antigua are well worth exploring with camera in hand. Stay tuned for more Antigua ruins this winter.

Sharon, your photos are always so stunning. You take a "crumbling" building and show all the beauty it has to share. Thanks for being my traveling eyes!

Abandoned, rather spooky place. Probably a special kind of energy is felt there.

Your ability to bring out the beautiful in every place amazes me. I love every picture here, well maybe not so much the stiff guy! :-)

I know people who have been to Guatemala, not only as tourists, but stayed longer to learn Spanish in immersion program. While the country and the people are beautiful, I feel like I would wait a bit to put this in my to do list.

It looks like a beautiful building, though I wouldn't want to be one of the nuns living there!

Beautiful ruins and wonderful architecture. Actually, for ruins, things like well preserved. Hopefully they are being cared for so that future generations can enjoy!

Sharon - the rich vegetation provides a superb counterpoint to the crumbling walls. I especially like the bright bougainvillea! Enjoy your weekend!

Love reading your travel adventures, whether it is in an area we know well (the posts both below and above this one) or a place like Antigua where I'd love to visit. I pick both.
