Jay Walking at Wood Lake

I caught a Blue Jay at Wood Lake.  He is not a "friend" of most birds.  But look at his amazing plumage.   A beautiful bully.

He looks like a bearded grandpa here.

"The objective is to teach the student to see the land, to understand what he sees and enjoy what he understands"

Aldo Leopold

Thanks wise old Blue Jay for pointing out this quote to me.  I hadn't noticed it before.

One of my favorite birds...a Blue Jay family visits our feeders daily. I've never seen them bullying the other birds, but when the Jays approach the other birds take off. I wonder if it's because of the loud call of the Jays announcing their approach, or is it because the Jays are a good bit larger than the others. Your photos and quote are lovely. Have a good weekend!

that IS a handsome Blue Jay! Their sound is so annoying but they are exquisite birds!

Fine shots. You've got that right about their bullying ways. We had dozens of them over the winter.. picking on our house.. literally. It turns out they're fond of paint for the calcium it contains. Destructive beasties.. but beautiful.

we tend to take them (and cardinals) for granted, yet they are so beautiful. :)

Beautiful bird and beautiful photos! I like jays even if they do stir up the other birds. Your pecan pancakes sound yummy too. Nice job on that too!

Gorgeous colors and beautiful photos!

We don't have "real" jays out here, but the ones we do have (scrub jay and stellar jay) are also pretty aggressive.

I so enjoy bluejays. Wishing we had them this far south.

And, I just have to add love the 'jaywalking' title for this post. Clever.

Nice picture - and nice words from AL.

And even a Blue Jay has to eat.
