Skulduggery

Skull.  The timely theme over at www.illustrationfriday.com this week.  Who would have thought that I started my art career painting them.  Especially when I've been wandering around in the world of children's illustration for so long now.  Maybe too long.  When I was painting my southwestern and texture filled skull pieces I was still making slides of my work.  And this is the only one I have scanned.  One of the originals sold before I could even get a slide done of it.  It still remains my largest single sale to date.

That would definitely qualify as skulduggery now.  Or more like stupidity.  Selling something you can't even make prints of.  But I miss those innocent and naive days of making art.  I didn't know what the heck I was doing.  But I enjoyed painting and expressing myself so much.  Now my work has to have a purpose to promote myself.  Or be appropriate for my website.  No skulls there.

Maybe it is time to climb the mysterious stairway and find out where it really leads me...

Blue Passageway

This is another painting from my Cow skull series. Another unsold but great edition to the basement series. The little white orbs are not ghosts or little UFO's. (or rabbit poo) That's kind of an inside joke that some of my blog lookers will understand! It's just lights and the flash. I guess I don't have to worry about illegal downloading, right? But all jokes aside, this is one of my favorite paintings. Now that I'm posting and talking about these pieces it makes me want to paint some more. I might have to do something about that.

Tiles

I chose this particular piece of art today because of a photo I plan to post later this week. One of my favorite things to paint is rustic wood and interesting architecture with stucco and terra cotta tiles. One of my better pieces sold at Edina's fall into the arts festival. And was one of my biggest sales to date. I wish I could say there were many "big" sales. But alas... I have many framed pieces similar to this one hanging in my basement. This one I did not frame and hang on my wall. You can probably guess that means it is not one of my favorites. But I do love the way the tiles appear in the lower corner of the piece.
