Beautiful Baru

Mornings are magic at Baru.  Hacienda Baru is located just outside the surfer town of Dominical, Costa Rica.  And it is one of my all time favorite beach walks. I hear a lot of people reminisce about white sand beaches.  They are the type that usually go to Sandals, sip sweaty umbrella drinks and barely explore the outer reaches of their beach towel. They have their priorities screwed up!  I think a perfect beach has a firm walking surface, warm water and miles of unexplored sand snaking as far as the eye can see.  Sand color is completely optional.  I've even walked on green sand beaches!

The pelicans were skimming the surface. They only care that the water is blue.

You won't see any celebrities.  But you will see stars.

Sand dollars are the only currency you'll need.  There's nothing to buy at Baru beach.

You can drift aimlessly...

Drift wood collects near the mouth of the Baru River.  It is the only beach chairs you'll find here.

There are no hotels either.  It's just you and the view.  Oh, and the sand is brown.

Meanwhile, I went to Panama! Be sure to hop over to www.thechorusofthecrows.blogspot.com for a new post about Panama City and how this exciting location impacted my writing.

San Juan Del Sur

Welcome to San Juan Del Sur.  The official location of this season's reality T.V. show Survivor.  The island of Ometepe was another previous Survivor location.  And we were just there as well!   Plus we drove right by the location of the season in Guatemala.  That makes us feel like real adventurers.  But thank goodness we were able to dine on the best that Nicaragua had to offer.  Instead of rice and boiled water.  San Juan Del Sur is a tourist town. So where are they dropping off the new crew of survivalists?  Well, I don't know.  But there is plenty of wilderness near by.  So what does San Juan Del Sur have to offer?

A great beach!  I love soft and firm sand for walking.  And a little warm Sun and wave action doesn't hurt either.

Ouch!  I love this photo.

Beached.

Perched.

Bridging the gap.

Be sure to walk all the way to the end.

And take time to enjoy the view.

P.S.  I've created a new photo blog.  A place where I can sell photos and photo cards.  Click here to check it out.  And if you like it, please help me spread the word!  It's called My 3rd Eye. That's what my camera is to me.

Sunrise...Sunset. On Sanibel.

Actually, we did Sanibel in reverse last Winter.  We did sunset first and took an evening stroll on the beach.  The tourists had been hard at work all day building sand castles.  It was sand castles for miles.  But I was running out of day light.  I should have run for my own pail and shovel instead.

The puffer fish decoration was a recurring theme.

This dolphin sports one too.

I feel the same way.

A few tiki drinks later and it's time for sunrise...

What does sunrise mean on Sanibel island?  Sea shells.

The sky glows pink.  The sun will make an appearance soon...

Viola!

After an exhausting morning of shelling we fortified ourselves with raspberry pancakes at The Sanibel Cafe.  You dine surrounded by urns filled with seashells.  And eat on a sort of glass bottom boat table.  Filled with shells of course!

Our hopes of seeing Roseate Spoonbills was a bust. But we did see white pelicans at J.N. Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge. For more birds visit Wild Bird Wednesday

And before we crossed back over to the mainland we enjoyed a good fish dinner.  Grilled Mahi.  That's life in the slow lane on Sanibel.  Fish dinners, sea shells, sandcastles, sunrise and sunset.  Repeat.
