Janu-Rica: Part 3

Day 17

The seemingly endless sand at Whale's Tail beach. (And yes, at low tide, the natural sand spit creates a massive whale's tail formation. Ironically, the area is also a mecca for humpback whales. I love the tail because when your footprints reach the end, you are rewarded with an unsurpassed view of the coast.

Day 18

Day 19

An oropendola.

I love their mating dance, dipping on a branch like a kid on the monkey bars. Simultaneously, they emit a zippy, giggle that culminates in a sneeze.

Day 20

The tiny squirrel monkey, bottom left, is an outsider, and not a guest-fixer-upper. She is all alone in the area, obsessed with her kin inside the cage - sad.

The top center capuchin monkey was taken with my phone, so I couldn't zoom in. He was snarling down at us, and showing his teeth, which is a sign of aggression, so it is not recommended to smile back at a monkey.

Day 21

Day 22

A pancake sized moth is rescued from our screen.

We call them bug-of-the-day here. Every day a new creature is in need of removal. This moth slept on the spatula until dark, then skittered off into the cicada filled night.

Day 23

Day 24

Alajuela Heights.

Day 25

Day 25 hasn't happened yet. We're heading home.

Until next year beloved Costa Rica...

You've made me want to visit Costa Rica someday, Sharon. It would be an interesting break from winter snow and cold here.

I love everything about your Costa Rica posts. Your description of the oropendola is a thousand times more fun than the one I found on the Internet after you mentioned it on your last post. *Now* I feel like I would recognize the bird immediately (and I wish I had the chance!)

Ilove the palm tree one - so simple yet so evocative. Just gorgeous. I feel a million miles away looking at it (Day 21)
