Swimming Around Capitol Reef

We felt like we should be driving a Mar's Rover on the way to Capitol Reef last summer. Can you imagine traversing the desert in a wagon with no air conditioning?

Imagining what it was like for early settlers - like the family above -  is mind-boggling. My husband knocked to make sure they were O.K.

The red rock is like petrified fire. (No fire hydrant needed)

The petroglyph boardwalk is a must-see in Capitol Reef. You meander along a towering red rock wall, lined with persistent trees, searching for ancient rock art. The images are subtle, but they're there.

The boardwalk.

Petrified wood.

A parked cop car with a dummy was a humorous way to slow down drivers in the town of Tory.

Tractor crossing.

A room with a view. You don't need scuba gear in Capitol reef, but you do need a camera.

Love those petroglyphs. Some of them look like astronauts to me. And simply awesome pictures, as always, Sharon. Thank you for sharing them with me. :-)

Beautiful photos! We have driven past Capital Reef a number of times - always hurrying from one place to another - and have never stopped. It looks like an amazing place!

We were there last week. We hit the big 5 and going to Capitol Reef we were welcomed by blizzard like conditions and in Capitol Reef, it was raining nonstop with temps at 32F (in late May!!!!!) But I loved it. We couldn't explore too much though, pity.

What an interesting place. The ancient art work is still so clear in places.

A stunning place to see. Like the idea of the dummy in the car.

I've never been to Capital Reef, but I know I would love seeing the area. Those petros are very cool, as is that old adobe. Yes, those early settlers were a hardy breed. Hard to even imagine what they must have gone through!

I like the dummy cop :) I can only imagine how miserable it would be for the people in the covered wagons. So glad to live today where I can enjoy the sights in comfort through your adventures!
