Marriage...or Jail

What an attention grabbing headline. Marriage...or Jail. Is there a connection to these photos you ask? Well, we were celebrating our anniversary at the Creamery in Downsville, Wisconsin this Spring. And I snapped these pictures of an old jail and post office. The weathered paint and old boards are the connection to my Arts and Crafts post. But my painting in no way compares to the nirvana of age shown here. Something old is my favorite kind of photographic journey. I posted the weathered boards on my header earlier this Summer. It was a personal favorite. I guess the dried Sunflowers currently headlining my blog could also be considered old. I took that photo near Eau Claire, Wisconsin this fall. Oh, and in case you're wondering I definately don't think of marriage as jail. But my husband does get mad at me when I leave the keys to the house lodged in the door. Go figure.

Whitewashed, Weathered and Worn

When I admitted that I loved to take pictures of old barns in my college photography class, the other students snickered. It was so been there done that, common and basically uncool. Well, I've encountered a few curious cows in my pursuit of barn greatness. And they seemed to be relatively surprised by me and my camera. So obviously that means that some barns have yet to be discovered! The three pictures posted today (see below) are all glamour shots of the same old building from my family farm. My uncle grew up there as well. He told me a story about that old building. That when he was a kid the old gal became infested with rats. So they locked the biggest and baddest Tomcat in there overnight. The next morning the rats were stacked up a mile high by the door. But there is either a crack in his story or it wasn't the door I photographed. Do you see that opening? You could practically fit a whole cow through it!

Green Passageway

I always have fun finding a connection between my art and my photos. Has anyone noticed? I was posting a few pictures for my new Facebook page and came across these two. I took these in the town of Downsville, WI last Summer. A little detour off the Red Cedar bike trail. Anything rusty, worn, and old of course catches my eye. And, well it occured to me that this was like a green passageway instead of a blue one. Maybe it's a stretch... but I love these pictures anyway.
