Dangerous Dusk

A stroll at dusk revealed a glowing skyline.

And some geese gliding by.  Unaware of any danger that might be lurking in the twilight.

Blood red vines hung like entrails along the real trail.

Things started to look spooky.

The pompous grass reached up to the heavens like the hands of a skeleton reaching up from the grave.

We felt like we were being watched.  You know the feeling...

Prickles started creeping up along our spines...

Zombies?  We were terrified!  We picked up the pace.  (But mostly because we were getting cold and tired)

I hope they can't get out...

You never know what will happen after dark.  Did we make it back alive?  Well, I'm writing this post. So it looks that way.

 But then again...
Maybe zombies can still read and write.

Happy Haunted Halloween from the Minneapple!

Yes, some people actually call it that!

Contraption

I here by interrupt my regular service of Fall photos to participate in www.illustrationfriday.com This is one of my favorite illustrations. I've posted it before. But not for illustration Friday. (I don't think) The little brown mouse in the corner is wielding a gadget, device or contraption. And don't we all wish we had a mouse to do the peeling for us. We just stocked up on Honeycrisps. 4 big bags. But I haven't made this recipe with apples yet this Fall. I made it with peaches recently. Yum. Making crepes is easier than you might think. (click on the image to enlarge directions) You can make the batter the day before and you don't need a crepe pan. Just drop a dollop of batter in a hot buttered pan, grab the handle and with a twist of the wrist spread it out to cover the bottom. Just cook briefly on each side. Easy! The only hard part is getting the mice to clean up after you!

Disguise

Disguise works two ways in this illustration. It's a self portrait. So you could say I'm disguised as Snow White. And as we all know the witch or in this case gorilla is misrepresenting the true nature of the apple. It's poison! I think I've posted this one for http://www.illustrationfriday.com/ before. But if I play along every week there are bound to be repeats. This illustration was part of my nightmare themed sketchbook project for Art House Co-op. An apple a day does NOT keep the gorillas away.

An apple a day keeps the nightmares away!

This illustration is the cover for Art House Co-op's sketchbook project. The Nightmare themed journal can now be found at the Brooklyn Art Library. And I thought it was the perfect choice for Remedy. The theme over at http://www.illustrationfriday.com/ today. I really love this simple illustration. But I'm not sure if the apple would be the cure or the cause. You be the judge...

Duet

Finally. A http://www.illustrationfriday.com/ theme that lets me post some new art! This illustration is part of my sketchbook project for Art House Co-op. http://arthousecoop.com/users/sharonrwagner My theme was Nightmare. And I had a lot of fun with my self portrait series. In this composition of 2, (duet) I changed the classic Snow White scene to include me and a Gorilla. It's called, "An Apple A Day Keeps The Gorillas Away" Luckily I never had to test that theory!

What's your nightmare?

Some of you might be thinking that your Christmas was a stressful nightmare. Sometimes all the shopping, spending and aspirations of perfection get the better of us. And then there's the relatives.

But my Christmas nightmare was an illustration project. And it wasn't that it was so terrible, it's just my theme. My sketchbook project. For more info on that you can click on the sketchbook project icon I recently added. I've also added an imagekind link recently. You can literally buy some paws since all the art I've posted so far are dogs and cats!

Today's illustration is the cover art for my little sketchbook. I'm still working on the art for the book. But one word describes the nightmare art...Gorillas. They put the scary in my bedtime...bigtime. And then there are those scary apple memories. Ha! An apple a day keeps the nightmares away!

P.S. Be sure to check back next week for my 2 year blogiversary giveaway.

Egg-citing news!

My illustrated recipe Spiked Crepes with Cinnamon Apples turned up last Thursday on the fun blog http://www.theydrawandcook.blogspot.com/ Or for a direct link try www.theydrawandcook.com/2010/12/spiked-crepes-with-cinnamon-apples-by.html#comments There's a holiday contest going on. So it's definitely a fun time to visit. 250 artists sent in illustrated recipes that will be posted through the month of December. And there are prizes at the end of the month. I really had a lot of fun illustrating this piece. Everyone seems to have a favorite mouse. Mine is the one wielding the peeler. The tough part of the illustration was condensing the crepe recipe so that I could fit it on the two cards. Nate, the blog author said he's already made the recipe twice. I made it Thanksgiving morning. And do you know what I did? I forgot the brown sugar. So I scooped the apples back out of the crepes and back in the pan they went. Eventually breakfast tasted much sweeter. Yum!
