Closing the Capitol

I love this photo.

It's time to move on to our 2019 trip to the Grand Canyon, Zion and Bryce. Nice! This is my last post in a seemingly endless series from our 2018 trip to Canyonlands, Arches and Capitol Reef. We love Red Rock country so much, we're already planning our 2020 trip: sizzling Sedona, Arizona and Lake Powell. I can't wait.

Mule deer.

We were shocked to discover orchards in the desert, dripping with fruit. In Capitol Reef, they harvest cherries, apricots, peaches, plums, apples and pears. While we were there, we devoured a tiny cherry pie so good, I brought one home on the plane. We also picked slightly under-ripe apricots and brought those home too. After tasting them ripe, I wondered: why the heck didn't we pick more?

Always cairns.

A last look and on to the next!

Yes, there's life in the desert, ours too. Life with the best fruit and veggies one could possibly dream of.
If you're so in love with the red rock area, why trips, why not live close to the place and enjoy it all the time.

Sharon - I have never heard of Capitol Reef, but you can bet it's on my bucket list now! When I look at your photos, I get a hankering to return to the desert. Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday!

Never thought you would get delicious juicy fruits from a desert.

I love the red rock country too. WE did our AZNVUT road trip end of May this year. I was speechless half the time and hyperventilating with excitement the other half.

I've always wanted to visit this part of the U.S. Thank you for sharing your photos of these lovely and dramatic places.
My post features a hike at Mount Rainier Natl Park.

That Red Rock country of Arizona is remarkable in so many ways. I first visited Sedona close to fifty years ago when it was a sleepy little town with local characters to talk to, some of whom were almost pioneers to the area, but when I last visited in 2008 it had become the tee shirt and baseball capital of the world. Ambiance was gone, tourist excess in full force - it was totally spoiled.

Is that a tractor seat? That's a cool shot. Once upon a time the first husband and I were traveling through Utah and I wanted to go to the Natural Arches park. Frank said we don't need to. We drive several more miles. Voila, rock arch formation alongside the road we were on. lol

When I was a kid we lived north of where your photos are Price, Utah and I grew to loved the red rocks and mountains. People in our neighborhood grew peaches, apricots, apples, pears, and cherries. We kids just helped ourselves to whatever we wanted. We got chased out a lot but we didn’t care.

We will be taking our new RV south to California and Arizona in the fall. We hope to get to spend more time seeing the sights. This year we really rushed because we had a rental. With our own rig we can take our time. I've saved your link for the travel blog share. Should have a post for next week about our quick trip near our Bellingham location. - Margy

I love the tractor seat too. It never occurred to me that there were apples in the desert. Now I'm wondering how the trees get enough water.
