Say hello to my little friend!

My husband had a bright idea. And it actually worked. He held completely still with a hand full of corn. Eventually our little friend darted up and bravely filled her cheeks. And those cheeks can hold at least 16 corn kernels. Luckily my husband just happens to have 100 pounds of corn sitting around. The mother load! No wonder the chippers love us so much.

Now I gave it a try. Success! It was pretty fun to feel her little hands leaning on mine. So cute.

Stuffed cheeks, brave hearts and full dens. (My Friday Night Lights theme for chipmunks)

UPDATE!: A few days later I was sitting outside on a deck chair. I had my feet up and was focused on a drawing project. I noticed our little friend was hanging around. All of a sudden she jumped up on my feet, looked at me and silently pleaded for more corn. I couldn't believe how brave she was. No photos of this event. But it definitely put a smile on my face.

You just made a friend for life, Sharon. Maybe I should buy some corn and try it with our chipmunks!

Your husband has made a friend for life. They, like elephants, never seem to forget. They are also worth the time to study. I found them, and the way they create underground homes, to be interesting.

The corn is not cracked so the heart is in each kernel and it will want to grow when the time comes. You may have several stalks growing where they dropped the seed.

Aww! that is so sweet! I remember when I was a kid, a neighbor used to feed a squirrel like that. He even had a name. Maybe, you need to give this little chipmonk a name.

Love chipmunks! We have some in our yard. I love how they scurry around. Jealous that you got one so close!

I used to bop them blueberries when I would eat lunch outside! And they would catch them like they were goalies! haha! :)

They're wonderful little critters, aren't they? We've considered luring Patio Bob to eating from our hands. I know we could do it but there are so many hawks and other predatory creatures around Frank's area, that we'd rather Patio Bob remain nervous and a bit less trusting.. just for his own sake. But I'd sure love to hold the little fart. They're such cute creatures. Nicely done, Sharon.. thanks for sending me this link. :)
