I SURRENDER!

I'm participating in my first illustration friday today. It's funny because I just put this illo on facebook in honor of Am Bam. He's the gorilla that's all over the news today because he likes to walk upright. What's next? Dancing perhaps? Then I logged on to illo/friday and surrender was the theme. This illustration seemed to fit that as well. I created this piece as part of my Nightmare themed sketchbook project for Art House Co-op. This year's journal was mailed 3 weeks ago to the Brooklyn Art Library.

Snow White is my alter ego in this series of self portrait illustrations. And I had a lot of nightmares about gorillas as a kid. Come to think about it, in one of those dreams the gorilla was standing upright. My Mom and I were ironing in the dining room and we looked into the kitchen and there was a gorilla staring (while standing) back at us. But that's a whole other illustration!

Welcome to IF.

I would dream about wolves as a kid. Snow white is a good alter ego. Just stay away from apples. They work like ambien on her. :)

Good illo. I like the colors of the bed. They feel very homely and ordinary and make snow white, who is so whimsical, stand out.

This gorilla doesn't seem scary at all, but curious! I just watched the TV news showing Am Bam walking around, at first I thought it was a person in a gorilla suit! :-)

I just heard about Am Bam, one Minute ago!
You did A GREAT JOB with that drawing.
I hope he will get up soon, otherwise there won´t be a happy end for the girl.

You really brought the nightmare to life! I submitted a sketchbook to the 2011 Art House Coop project too. Glad to meet another one of the participating illustrators :)

love the style of your illustrations, they are delightful!!

I used to have nightmares about Gorillas as well...I used to dream about them hanging on our front door ringing the doorbell lol...I dreamed about it when i was young....I used to think it was my mother because I had a horrible mother.

Glad you participated this week Sharon. Gave me a chance to enter your blogworld. Nice work! Great blog! Oh congrats on mailing out your sketchbook project. What is so funny about your “surrender” piece is that all four of us brothers would do this very thing to each other as kids and say...”Surrender!” NICE!

Awesome! I haven't heard of AM BAM but I just looked him up and am amazed! Love it!

I clicked on your link from the IF website because of the illustration then saw you were from MN and then realized that I recognized your work from CBIG. I always seem to recognize the work first and then the people.

This is a superb first drawing for Illustration Friday! Great!
