Nicaragua in 23 Photos

We were gone for twenty-three days, and on one of those days, we visited a beach in Rivas; seeing a colorful bus dominating the sand is quintessential Nicaragua. In the background, the Concepcion volcano looms over Ometepe island like an enormous water tower.

Bold and breathtaking.

Nicaragua is no stranger to unrest, and the nineteen volcanoes that boil and bubble—seemingly everywhere—add sufficient drama and tension. But there is more to Nicaragua than volcanoes. Discovering this long-buried highlight post sprinkled a hefty dose of wanderlust over my feet.

Take a look.

A frolicking pig on the beach in Las Penitas. You'll share the beach with cows, horses, and pigs in Nicaragua.

Beautiful and vibrant, a place that you have brought to life in your photos. No, I don't "do" Instagram and think I'm glad I don't. :-)

I like the distant view of the volcano. It appears in two of your pictures: the first one with the bus, and the one before the last picture. I have a "soft spot" for volcanoes.

I also like the panoramic view of the city of Leon from the bell room of the church. Very good capture of both the bell and the city as seen from the top!

No, I'm not on Instagram. I must shamefully confess that I'm even not on Facebook.

Oh how lovely to see all your photos Sharon. So delightful to see everyday life through your eyes. Pretty street flags, even the animals on the beach... All part of life. Thankyou!

Beautiful trip. Loved the pig on the beach -- that's wild. And you always get a rent-a-cat -- you must have good kitty karma! I don't think I could handle Instagram based on what you say here. I'm off to read more about it over on your other blog.

Wonderful photos, such colors. I've never seen a pig on a beach before. I am not sure that I have ever seen a post about Nicaragua before.

I love Instagram but it takes work. When I follow somebody it is because I like their photosand it is a commitment. I will like almost anything unless they start posting more than two or so per day. I hate the people that follow me, then unfollow me a few days later. I can smell them coming. I finally found an app that let me know when people do that to me. I also check once a month and I'll unfollow almost anybody I follow who could not see fit to like one of my photos for the whole month. I generally post twice a day.

So now I follow about 350 some people. Of those only about 50 to a 100 are very active.

So anyway, I have grown to like Instagram but I have to work at it.

What bright colors, and the sky is so blue! You've given me a much better idea of what Nicaragua looks like. It's a lively place!

Now, I want to go to Nicaragua! I have mentioned it is the only Central American country I have not visited. There are so many gorgeous places in there. I will need like two weeks to cover the basics. #TPThursday
