I think this is a yellow crowned night heron. He looks like a realistic painting of a bird on an impressionist background. But of course it is just a photograph at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in Florida.
And he is part of the blog hop over at Paying Ready Attention

That's definitely a yellow-crowned night heron. Beautiful shot! I agree that the background has a Monet-like quality. :)
Wow, that's a beautiful heron. Sometimes, they look almost reptilian, don't they?
Nice shot!
Great photo. Beautiful bird, and I like the contrasts of color and texture.
I don't see these as often in Louisiana as I did in Texas. Beautiful image!
Woof! Woof! Wow it looks like a painting. Beautiful. Golden Thanks for sharing. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
Great photo! It looks like a bird that stepped into a painting. Beautiful!
I love the Night herons! Great shot of the YC Night heron.
He looks like he's shrugging his shoulders while looking craftily around. :-)
Herons of all kinds are such cool birds. Fine photo, Sharon.
So well captured. To me he looks like someone who had been admonished to " pull your head in"!
Thats a great picture - and funnily enough (see the comment above) I was going to suggest like it has no neck!!
Cheers and thanks for linking to WBW.

Gorgeous capture! When were you there? So funny how our paths may have crossed!
Gorgeous! It DOES look like a super-detailed painting!
Very nice image of a beautiful heron!
Corkscrew is a great place!
great shot of this beautiful heron. :)
Yay Corkscrew! We haven't made it there yet -- but we'll be here until June and we're still planning to try to get there (it has been a crazy season for us).
Maybe the night heron will wait for us ;>) Beautiful picture.
Beautiful and grumpy looking!
Very nice photo...
