Passion Fruit

I feel a certain amount of passion for a good mango.  Not a Minnesota mango.  But an ugly black spotted but perfectly ripe one picked right from the tree and purchased for peanuts.  I ate a mango just like that in Costa Rica this month.  Thank you Uvita farmer's market.  I paired it with a fried egg sandwich. The bread for that was purchased from a snooty french bakery in Ojochal.  The eggs were bought in a store.  But when you taste them you know they are snatched from chickens that live the pura vida lifestyle.  Well, obviously I enjoy a good breakfast.  And when you eat it on a warm morning by the ocean in Costa Rica it's all the better.

Passion is the www.illustrationfriday.com theme this week.  I painted this years ago.  In fact, the passionate fruit admirer is part of an advertisement.  I don't use images like that anymore.  The melding of woman and ocean is all me.  My favorite part is the mango that is a sea urchin.  Hmmm, come to think of it that is one culinary delight that I have yet to savour.  Someday...maybe.

Kenny 365

I've been participating in a really fun community photo project. 365 photos of our neighborhood. One photo every day for a whole year. I thought it was a good time to post the photos I've submitted so far since there is a change of seasons going on. Sniff. Soon the photos will reflect cooler temps, Fall leaves and maybe some pumpkins popping up around the neighborhood. There are 17 Kenny photographers snapping shots. It all started on June 1st and will keep rolling until the end of May 2012. I bet I don't have one blog visitor that would like to visit the website to see ALL the photos taken so far. But here's a link anyway! http://www.kennyneighborhood.org/

Meats and Berries

I couldn't resist naming this post Meats and Berries. Actually the meat has nothing to do with it. But when we go to the farm for the weekend, we always pass this freeway farm sign promoting their goofy combo.

When we arrived at the farm there were no berries to be had. But it just so happens that the beautiful farm pictured here has pick your own berries on Saturday. Cain's orchard also has apples in the Fall. This area is where I grew up. Isn't it beautiful? But when I was a teenager I thought it was a hell hole. I'm older and wiser now.

This was $7.00 worth. What a deal.

This is Riverbend Golf course in Northbend, Wisconsin. When we arrived a golfing tournament was just finishing up. And I discovered something. It's kind of nice to golf after a tournament. Because they had those extra large holes in place. Of course I still missed several putts! But what a beautiful course along the Black River. We saw hummingbirds, yellow finches, woodpeckers and countless varieties of butterflies.

And a peacock.

Meats? Sorry, I couldn't resist.

And we even picked a few Blackberries on Sunday.

Here's a quick and easy Summer breakfast. Toast some good quality french bread. Spread with slightly sweetened cream cheese with almond extract. Add some fresh berries. My favorite is Black Raspberries. (little Blackberries shown here) Then top with toasted almonds. And if you want to call it Meats and Berries just add bacon!
