The Best of the North Shore

The Duluth Lift Bridge.

July Fourth means Duluth—period. We always eat at Bali Asian Cuisine, Burrito Union, Sammy’s Pizza, Hippie Tacos, Va Bene, Corktown, OMC, and Lyric. But we don’t eat in a restaurant. We get takeout and picnic in Leif Erikson, Lester, Lincoln, and Kitchi Gami parks. My favorite is Enger Park and its stunning view, and don’t forget to ring the ancient bell! But we’ve done more than eat over the years. We’ve hiked and biked, and I’ve taken lots of photos.

Follow our feet…

Here lies intrepid river swirls that are as beautiful as a painting.

Weekend Walk-About

The other great Minnesota get together: The Internet Cat Video Festival. I wore my best, sparkly cat ears, and hoped I wouldn't acquire covid or distemper.

Here's a photo in front of my cat illustration: Bedroom Buddies. I love my tiara-ears that I picked up in Las Vegas.

Random Hotels are our Up-North cabins. Every weekend, we roam. This weekend wasn't as flashy and exciting as my cat ears, but we did have an epic bike ride, and miscellaneous amusements. It all started in St. Paul, at the feline festival and fireworks. Then our feet moved to Lanesboro, Minnesota, ending in Rochester, New York - cat scratch that - I mean
Rochester, Minnesota. It was fun. Follow our feet...

Is Tootsie Schacht a real person? Or is it a joke? Or both?

Rochester has a huge goose-poop problem. Especially here, at this memorial. This mosaic tells a story.

Rochester: Home of the Mayo Clinic.

Whalen and the epic-curious Rochester Farmer's Market.

Duluth: July 4th Edition

The iconic Lift Bridge.

The most surprising aspect of our holiday in Duluth, Minnesota,(we're still up North) is the temperture. 90! Uff da Lutefisk. I love it. There's usually a brisk wind haunting the Northshore of Lake Superior, no matter what month you visit - not this weekend.

We've been walking, biking and boating high and low in search of the frigid North and can't find anything remotely cold. We have found millions of coral-colored pebbles and agates, infinite fresh water, and the best fireworks in the midwest. We're still having fun. See for yourself...

Pigpen eats.

Picnic fail.

Pink pebbles at Iona Beach.

We both have our own poses at Split Rock.

The Rose Gardens.

This chipmunk found a peanut butter cup.

I hope you had a sparkling holiday!
