Koreshan State Park

I've been thinking about Dystopian/Utopian Societies ever since reading: THE GIVER, an engrossing page turner that will make every rainbow seem more magical.

Last year, I left a copy of THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA at my Costa Rican cabana, after reading the book with relish. The Hemingway tome was still there in 2022, tattered and well-read. Beside it was THE GIVER. I devoured THE GIVER like a ripe papaya - yum.

Koreshan State Park in Bonita Springs, Florida, is the location of a Utopian society called Koreshanity, founded in 1894 by Cyrus Reed Teed. The followers believed the entire universe existed inside a giant sphere.

It's a fun place to learn some unusual history and do a walk-about...

This photo reminds me of the out-buildings on my dad's old farm.

This post marks the end of my Florida posts from 2021!

I have read The Old Man and the Sea, and now I will have to read The Giver!

Florida is so lush and colorful. This is a fascinating place to visit--glad they preserved the buildings for historical purposes.

How interesting! I love to walk around places like this and learn something new. I'll search and see how far away it is from where I live. Enjoy your week! It's warming up...YAY!

So weird cults have been around forever - I didn't know. I just thought they were a newish thing (20th century)

Looks like a beautiful place. Universe inside a giant sphere sounds like The Truman Show.

Sharon - societies come and go - I can only hope that we can learn from past mistakes and avoid a bad outcome! Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday!

The architecture and furnishings are exquisite. The huge Alice-in-wonderland mirror over the fireplace seems like a window to another world.
