Duluth, Minnesota: Part 2

“ROAD TRIPS ARE THE EQUIVALENT OF HUMAN WINGS. ASK ME TO GO ON ONE, ANYWHERE. WE’LL STOP IN EVERY SMALL TOWN AND LEARN THE HISTORY AND STORIES, FEEL THE GROUND, AND CAPTURE THE SPIRIT. THEN WE’LL TURN IT INTO OUR OWN STORY THAT WILL LIVE INSIDE OUR HISTORY TO CARRY WITH US, ALWAYS. BECAUSE STORIES ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN THINGS.” – VICTORIA ERICKSON

December is an irregular month for road trips. But these road trips are nothing but fumes. The memories live on in photographs: a bird's eye view of Lake Superior, and a sunny and spectacular day up north. Take a deep breath. Follow our feet...

A split rock mystery...

Split Rock Lighthouse.

Enchanting.

The weekend and the butterflies. Labor Day weekend 2020 was a road trip highlight. The monarchs were preparing for migration to Mexico. We were anticipating our annual migration to Florida and Central America. (Duluth is the northernmost point of our travels)
Flo-vember is already in the rear view mirror. But life is an open road. Stay tuned!

“I WANT TO GO ON A ROAD TRIP. JUST YOU AND ME. THE HIGHWAY, THE RADIO, THE BLUE SKY, THE BACK ROADS, AND WINDOWS DOWN. WE’LL TALK ABOUT EVERYTHING AND NOTHING. WE’LL SING OUR HEARTS OUT, AND WE’LL MAKE MEMORIES WE’LL NEVER FORGET. JUST YOU AND ME.” – UNKNOWN

Sharon, I loved sharing your travel memories. Maybe I’ve already told you that we were surprised and delighted with our totally unplanned stayover in Duluth (on our long long roadtrip). Both quotes are going into my memory journal. Thanks for all.

I love lighthouses and I enjoyed seeing your views of Split Rock Lighthouse from the water. Beautiful! The fireplace story is sad. I wonder if there was a cabin around it once that burned down or blew away in a storm?

That fireplace is beautiful. It's sad to think that a home never ended up enclosing it. I love that gorgeous lighthouse, though, thank you for your awesome pictures as always. :-)

Sharon - as you know, we are HUGE fans of road trips. I felt like I could have written these quotes! And looking at these sunny shots just made me heart-sick for the simpler days before the pandemic. Here's praying they will come again! Thanks for the memories, and taking everyone at Mosaic Monday with you!

Thank you for sharing your Duluth photos. I was there once to run Grandma's Marathon. I would love to go back and stay longer. Maybe after the pandemic is under control!

Lots of awesome views there in Duluth! Thanks for giving us a good bunch to look at. Been to MN, but nowhere near this place.

I've never been to Minnesota, but these pics sure make me want to add it to my bucket list. The lighthouse on top of that cliff is just stunning. I love the mystery of the fireplace. Have a great week!

Beautiful photos. I love that light house, so high up on the rocky cliffs. The fireplace is a real mystery. Seems like an unlikely place to build a house!

Awesome scenery and photos. I really like the first one, which I presume is you with your arms outstretched.

Lovely photographs of your wonderful trip, and seeing the monarchs gathering before their long flight had to have been the icing on the cake for this year. I've been on many road trips in my past without camera, and the memories are always with me. Lovely post.

You were in my neck of the woods! I live only a few hours south of Duluth and have been there many times. Your photography is gorgeous!
