Lamanai: Submerged Crocodile

We caught a fast boat to Lamanai during our stay in Orange Walk, Belize. The steamy day was a trip highlight: weaving along the New River and hugging curves like a bat-out-of-hell, debarking at an ancient Mayan city that was a hive of activity for 3200 years. If you haven't noticed, I love the jungle and almost everything in it.

Follow our feet...

The John McAfee house. (He might be a bit of a weirdo)

Belize is so raw and so clear and so in-your-face. There’s an opportunity to see something about human nature that you can’t really see in a politer society, because the purpose of society is to mask ourselves from each other.
-John McAfee

Baby howler monkeys.

Last call.

We buzzed back with happy smiles and hands full of rum punch.

Wow, looking down those stairs brought back memories of doing just that on an ancient Mayan ruin. Can't remember which one. :-)

We loved Belize sooo much and we did stay in OrangeWalk for a few days at the end of our visit there ... I remember the pyramid. I should try to digitize my pictures of some of our earlier trips (wayyy earlier!) before time fades them into obscurity.

Sharon - I have only been to Belize once, and I think the quote by John McAfee sums it up well! Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday!

Beautiful photos, but my favorite is the one looking down toward the base of the pyramid. I have difficulty capturing the depth in some of my photos. You did a great job with that.

Even the snakes are colorful in Belize! That's a country I've always wanted to see. It'll have to be in my next life, or when my Spirit soars to the heavens. Until then, I appreciate photos taken by travelers such as yourself. Thanks, Sharon!

Those Maya ruins are amazing to see, Sharon! I would not do well in a hot and humid jungle so this will be the only way I'd see them
