North Rim: Arizona
I can finally say I've seen the Grand Canyon. It was spectacular. But, honestly, I was more in awe of the big five in Utah. Utah and its environs, have so many natural wonders. We started this trip on an unnatural strip of Nevada: Las Vegas. Then we spent the majority of our time exploring Utah, with a side trip to the edge of Arizona. The Grand Canyon is only 10 miles across as the crow flies. But it will take you five hours to travel from rim to rim. The North Rim - with an elevation over 8,000 feet - is wild and secluded.
Follow our tracks...
We walked down a slip-of-a-trail, and peered over the edge. We couldn't see the bottom at any point.
I was nervous when my husband stepped onto this out-cropping. But I snapped a photo anyway.
Next stop: the South Rim. Someday.

Spectacular photos.
I lived in AZ for a decade and LOVED the pristine beauty of the canyon. Your photos are sublime.
You really do have to see it to appreciate it! And it looks like you went at a great time for good views! I love spending time out West with so much to see!
I was there decades ago, but some of your pictures brought me right back there! Wonderful, as usual. :-)
Love the critters in the last post, especially the bird's expression. I don't blame you for being nervous with your husband out on the rock. Makes me kind of nervous to see it in a photo :)
I haven't gone to the North Rim except during a helicopter tour the crossed over. Back in 1981 we flew our small plane there for our honeymoon. When it came time to leave the weather had moved in. We sat in the terminal waiting for someone to arrive so we could ask them how bad it was up in the air. - Margy
I hear you about Grand Canyon paling somewhat in comparison to the Big 5. I saw the Grand Canyon first a decade or so ago and both my husband and I got teary eyed when we first got a glance at it.
This past May we visited the big 5 and we realized that we did the right thing by visiting the Grand Canyon first and savoring its "grandness", otherwise if we visit the big 5 first, we won't be able to appreciate the Grand Canyon.
Worth a Thousand Words
Fabulous images and views
I know what you mean about the big five in Utah vs. the Grand Canyon and I agree. I have only been to the west rim of the Grand Canyon, but would love to go to the park itself someday. Thank you for the link up.
Great photography! You really captured so much which is really hard to do at the Grand Canyon.
Sharon - this brings back a lot of memories - my brother and I have very similar shots from a road trip - Ohio to California. And later, after I was married, my husband, father-in-law and I hiked to and camped in the bottom of the Canyon. Quite the experience! Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday!
Your pictures bring back memories of visiting the Grand Canyon as a teenager. I never forgot the beauty of scenery and the rocks. We rode mules down into the Canyon, so I really felt your uneasiness when your husband was so close to the edge.. My mule Julie did the same!! Your pictures brought back those wonderful memories of the beauty.
Wow, you took some fantastic pictures. It's been a long time since I visited the Grand Canyon. I actually live in Las Vegas. How did you like it here?
I guess all the parks have their own beauty. I do love the shots that you shared today :)
Thanks for taking the time to link up at 'My Corner of the World' this week!

If I ever return to the Grand Canyon, I would love to see the North Rim. It looks really beautiful, and I'm sure it's much less crowded. Beautiful photos!
So scenic!
fantastic views...
thank you for sharing

Beautiful scenes.
It really is spectacular! Wonderful photos. I WAS glad to read what you said about the Utah NPs though, because we share that exact feeling.
