Tikal: Day 2

Temple 2.

Day two at Tikal National Park was even better than day one. But, it certainly wasn't because of the weather. It was cloudy and unseasonably cool on both visits. Still, I can't imagine a better way to spend a day: ancient and mysterious ruins, wild jungle, howling monkeys thrashing in the trees and exotic birds.

Follow our footsteps...

Temple 5.  My favorite.

An Agouti.

We call them royal rats!  Supposedly, Queen Elizabeth was served one while visiting Belize.

Red-lored Parrot.

The highlight occurred at day's end. Bird watching at the top of Temple two. Everything that was hidden during the day, came out to play!

Crested Guan.

Orange-breasted Falcon.

Ocellated Turkey.

Temple one. Steep and intimidating.

The ruins are just awesome to see and of course I love the exotic birds. I thought I Joined this week’s linkup when I stopped by earlier this morning (pre-coffee obviously) and just came back to read your post and say thank you. And so now I have linked the same post here where it belongs. Thanks for hosting and for sharing your amazing travels.

Love it all. You reminded me of long ago when I climbed those steps and what looking back down was like! Wonderful to take me back there. Looking forward to more :-)

This is definitely on our bucket list - I can't come up with enough adjectives to describe how I feel when I look at these pictures - inspiring, amazing, daunting, mystical, treasured … and the wildlife is a BONUS! Our turkeys are not nearly as interesting as that! Thanks for hosting this blog hop!
