There are over 2,000 natural arches in Arches National Park, Utah. It was a photographer's paradise and a hiker's surreal, dream. Although, if you stick around for the best photographic sunbeams, sweat will jump around your skin like water on a hot skillet - then it will evaporate into the dry, desert air.
Broken Arch (shown above) was one of my favorite trails in Arches. But, be sure to start in the campground, which will deliver you through a martian landscape, instead of a straight shot from a hot, parking lot.
Everything was twisted, worn, weathered and red!
I love this photo - even my hat was a red-rock match.

I too like the photo with you under the arch, the red of the cap matching the color of the rocks. It's adorable! The red rocks and arches never fail to stun us. We have them also in our israeli desert.

Wow! Two thousand stone-formed arches captured in a photograph of one arch! - Truly Amazing! - crafted from the winds, the sands and the former vapor collections that formed rivers many, many, many years ago!

Worth a Thousand Words
This is my kind of trail. All those sandstone pillars make the landscape otherworldly. One of my bosses moved recently to LA and he says he cannot stand the deserts of the West. I cannot disagree more with his point of view.

I went to Arches last year for my very first time. It was spectacular - and measured up to all my expectations though it did look different than I expected. Such beauty!
These are epic shots, Sharon!! I've never been to Arches, but as you can imagine, it's at the tip top of my list of places to go. I love all the red rock and sand (we just get a hint of that in Joshua Tree).
I thought "two turtles kissing" when I saw the first pic of the broken arch. The closer shot looks even more like turtles kissing :) Wonderful photos as always!
