The Best of Lover's Key

The good news is that my in-laws survived hurricane Irma!
They hunkered down in a lower, inside unit of their condo building, just a palm frond past the mandatory evacuation zone on the other side of highway 41 in Naples, Florida. I'm glad the devastation was not nearly as bad as it would have been if Irma hit Naples with all the fury of a class 4. (Irma hit Naples at a level 3 - downgraded from 4) However, since the whole United States has been watching Naples on pins and needles, I'm sure you all know this already! The mayor said the storm surge wasn't nearly as massive as they feared it would be. Still, it's a big fat mess down there.

I hope that my beloved Lover's Key is still there.

Behold the sunny delight of Lover's Key during better times...

All of these photos were taken on beautiful Lover's Key just south of Fort Myers Beach, Florida.

Let the clean up begin...

Have a meaningful September 11.

P.S. I'm really excited to share new images from my upcoming children's book: Mrs. Jones' Tea Party  Pop over for a visit!

A relief that it wasn't as bad as originally thought but nevertheless it is going to take an awful long time to rebuild and repair all those damaged buildings.

I'm glad it wasn't as bad as they feared. My sister was pretty much okay, too. I know her mobile home is still standing. I think they don't have power, but otherwise they are fine. Love your pictures, as usual. :-)

These images are fascinating. I find shells to be so beautiful. Now I'm intrigued....I plan on looking at older posts too. I currently live in Wisconsin. 😉 We have been to Naples quite a few times and have many friends that either live there or have places down there. I'm thankful it wasn't as bad as they feared too!

It is good to see this face of Florida! We thought Puerto Rico was going to be destroyed by the storm. The damage was moderate and people is doing fine. Now, the small islands were destroyed. We are looking for ways to help.

Thank you for visiting my blog! We have family in Daytona Beach and they weathered the storm in Orlando. They are back at home with only some tree branches down. Many others not so fortunate! Thanks for these stunning pictures - my favorite is the porcupine fish!!!

I'm glad the folks are OK! What an un-fun adventure. Thanks for the memories and the good wishes! Lover's key is (and I hope the present tense is still applicable) a wonderful place and your pictures do it justice. We watched from all the way across the country with bated breath. We don't deserve the 'I survived...' T-Shirt like your in-laws do, but we were very afraid for our tiny house in N Ft Myers -- apparently it survived.

What a wonderful series of photos! So glad the in-laws are safe and sound! That being said, I'm sure it is a big mess and my heart goes out to the people who are suffering trying to get their lives back together.

Discovered your lovely blog from Our World Tuesday. Your images, illustrations and writing are fantastic! We have friends in Estero and Ft Myers, and they all survived Irma as well. We've cruised up and down Florida and tried to find Lover's Key to no avail. Care to divulge the exact location?
