The Way to Casco Veijo...

A busy dog walker.

We stayed in a high rise amidst the skyscrapers of bustling Panama City last January. We even played a few rounds in the towering Trump casino and joked about him becoming our next president. Ha! We laughed and laughed, thinking it would only happen when pigs fly. Gulp. Good grief. It did.

Panama City was a completely new Central American experience. But the old quarter or Casco Veijo, with its more familiar gritty and crumbling facades, wasn't far away. We walked...

The skyscrapers loom in the distance as we passed this local fish market.

A load of bananas greeted us as we entered the old quarter. The historic part of Panama City.

Now where? My camera led the way...

Who ya gonna call?

This alley of graffiti and crumpled garbage cans was photography nirvana for me.

Casco Viejo is being restored and revitalized as we speak. But many empty ruins remain. One of them held a pop up food truck!

I just love these two gentleman passing time, wearing their Panama hats. It doesn't get more Panama than that!

This week, I reminisce about my vacation pets, Puffy and Petite, over on my other blog, The Chorus of the Crows

Wonderful -- I love how you show the grittiness and not just the tourist-ready places .... this makes me wish I could visit much more than the tourist brochures do.

Wonderful pictures. You can find beauty in just about everything, Sharon. :-)

Your photography reflects the contrasts that make up reality in that historical quarter of Panama city : the old and the new, the nice and the ugly, the significant and the trivial. That's the beauty of it!
My favorite picture is the last one with the two men sitting on the green bench; they somehow display the 'manana' spirit of South America.

You have captured an essence I can hear and smell (I smell bananas).I think the animals were posing for you. How many dogs can one person walk, lol. Excellent colors, some look like spice, others like Miami.

I remember how much I liked Casco Viejo. Well, you know how much I like color. I do not remember where we stayed during our visit. I know we ended up in a no so nice place because our first choice was sold out. We eventually moved to that nice place the next day. #OurWorldTuesday

Oh wow Sharon, really fabulous to see Panama through your eyes. You take great shots. I loved all the balconies - their colours, railings and so on. The doors and steps and buildings... exciting to be seeing all that. Thank you! Cheers :D)

The pigs really are flying - which is not how the world is supposed to be.

Looks like a great part of the world - so many places to see and so many travel restrictions in place!

Loved the trip around the old town of Panama. Looks like my kind of place. We are still reeling from the shock of Trump being elected over here in Australia.

Those photos are very wonderful descriptions of that place. I smiled most at the 2 gentlement, as well as the lots of birds on the roof. I guess they get lots of food.
