Fluffy Gray Bird

I bought a new camera this winter with a 30 + zoom.  It has been really fun.  I don't carry a tri-pod so it takes a steady hand.  I just snap any one or any thing that poses nicely.  And this gray bird certainly did.  I took this photo at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in Florida.  What a beautiful and peaceful place. I do wish that my husband and I started charting our bird discoveries years ago. We encounter a lot of serious birders on our trips to Central America.  And we joked that we would become one of them someday.  Now it doesn't seem like a joke.  I don't even know what this common bird is off hand.  I think it is time to invest in a thick bird book.  The khaki outfit will be determined later.

It is Wednesday and I am not posting a recipe.  What gives?  But I came across this blog hop Paying Ready Attention and since I have hundreds of bird photos (plus my desire to wear khaki) I thought I would try something different for awhile.  If you are in need of a new recipe see my labels.  They are just waiting to be fried, baked and savoured.  But for now feast on birds.  Just not literally.  Wednesdays are now up in the air.  Literally.  Ha!

I don't recognize the bird either, but he's a beauty. I love the gray.

I enjoy watching birds, but I don't know the names of many. I saw a lovely bluejay today--I did recognize that one! :-)

Nice shot, Sharon! Fantastic feather detail and great catch light! I'm thinking it's a Gray Catbird, but I'm not absolutely certain.

He's a pretty fellow!

Brian is correct, gray catbird. Nice shot. Khaki is optional. Although I tend to wear a lot of olive drab.

Also unimpressive birds can be beautiful, a nice shot.

Welcome to the club Sharon, and no need for khaki.
Take care Gordon.

Nice one! There's always room for another bird photographer, and with your artistic talents I'm sure you'll be knocking us dead soon.

I like the birds better than the recipes, because I'm not a foodie, but a birdie I am! Beautiful shot, Sharon, just beautiful! :-)

Great photo and post! There are a lot of on-line bird guides for free. Save your money on the book and buy the khaki outfit!

I think I would have suggested Cat Bird - but I would have said I have no real idea.

Birders do have a rather characteristic dress sense I have to say!

Welcome to WBW!

Cheers and thanks for linking - Stewart M - Melbourne

That's my neck of the woods, but I don't recognize the bird right off hand..looks like some kind of a creeper. (We're fairly new Floridians, definitely still learning). Enjoy birding...I think a lot of us probably thought we'd never be a birder but here we are.)

Very nice photo of the Gray Catbird! That is a really neat area to explore.
Enjoyed your post!

(I should have been wearing khaki?? Sigh, another memo I missed.)
