Gaia: Earth Goddess

Our home base was a cute cabana in San Ignacio, but our destination was Gaia River lodge in the pine forest of Belize. A road trip within a trip! We'd stayed at Gaia a few year's back, and were charmed by the waterfalls, wild forest and handcrafted accommodations. Gaia River Lodge is a memorable place to stay while visiting the remote Mayan ruins of Caracol. But this time, Gaia was our destination. Follow my lens...

Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

First, we had lunch and coconut water with coffee beans.

The lift. It worked!

It was broken on our previous two visits to Gaia. The first time we arrived, we were visiting Five Sister's Lodge. (the resort's previous incantation) The second was our overnight stay at the new digs: Glammed-up Gaia. So, 2020 marked our very first lift. It was fun.

Gaia River Lodge is glamorous enough for a jungle-loving goddess. Or, a middle-aged, travel-loving, earth walking, writer/illustrator.

Images from my Caracol post, way back in 2013. (That's a drawing I did in high school, by the way) Click moneyball for an 80's flashback. And some top-notch Mayan ruins.

Merry Christmas!

Our battered suitcases were piled on the sidewalk again; we had longer ways to go. But no matter, the road is life.” – Jack Kerouac

Oh gosh, we stayed there way back all those years ago when it was Five Sisters and we loved it there and the family that ran it, wonder what happened to them. I’m coming back when I get caught up here to look more thoroughly (and drool with envy). But wanted to wish you happy holidays and thank you even tho my post has only a tiny bit of last years travel in it. I do love this linkup...thanks.

I'd like to escape to a river bush lodge right now. All the best for the season. Stay safe.

Sharon - that type of "lift" is common on some of the lakes around here, where the houses are at the top of a cliff, and the lift allows the people to get down to the boathouse! Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday, and Merry Christmas to you!

Some great photos. If the lift went high, I'd never be able to do it. Happy Tuesday.

I'm happy for you that the lift works otherwise that's a big climb! What a fabulous place to stay - I would love this and the coffee beans in the coconut water, I want to try this!
Merry Christmas and Happy Travels!
