Duluth, Minnesota: Part 1

“The foreman was a short, iron-jawed man. He had once made a trip as far as Duluth. Duluth was far across the blue waters of the lake in the hills of Minnesota. A wonderful thing had happened to him there.”

— Ernest Hemingway

A wonderful thing happened to us too: road trip nirvana. Duluth is enticingly different from the rest of Minnesota. You'll see ancient lava flows wallpapering the hillside; mossy forests with miles of trails; (perfectly suited for a family of vampires) pebble beaches littered with agates and driftwood; wild rivers swirling with leaves, and a great lake that always sits just beyond your peripheral vision. (depending on your trajectory)

Follow my feet...

Do you see the dragonfly helicoptering over the crow? There were thousands.

Park Point.
My husband took some surprise photos!

Enger tower shadows.

In the distance, you'll see the longest sand spit in the world.

The iconic lift bridge.

It looks like you had a beautiful day to wander. Sell these shots to the city for post cards :)

Incredible shots, as usual. And I didn't see that dragonfly until you pointed it out. Jaw dropping stuff here, Sharon! :-)

Love finding those unusual captures and enjoy seeing yours. Glad to see a butterfly as I actually haven't seen any in my flowers this Summer. Hoping some will stop by in the Fall. Have a great week.

Sharon - I still have good friends who live in Minnesota since I went to grad school at the University of Minnesota. So nice to see these scenes of Duluth, and the surprise shots of the person behind the always stunning pictures. Thanks for sharing your road trip with everyone at Mosaic Monday!

Oh nice and fun memories for us. We stayed (RV) a few days in Duluth, kinda’ by accident . Bills sister and BIL had recently been transferred to Bemedji and we decided to detour from wherever we were to visit them ... didnt really plan anything ...and we found some of what you show in Duluth... And so we stayed there longer than we’d thought we would. (Family knew we were coming but didn’t know how long it would take us to get there.) Sometimes the things you remember best are the things you discover by chance.
