The Landscape of Mushrooms

First, we passed Newspaper Rock: a dizzying slab of desert varnish, filled to the brim with 2,000 year old Petroglyphs. Then we arrived at a surreal jungle of mushroom rock. Surely, Mother Nature loves Utah. You'll find this landscape in the remote, Southeast corner of Canyonlands National Park. It's called Needles. But, it sure looks like mushrooms to me.

Follow our footsteps...

The good old days...

Ruins.

Awestruck.

Martian.

The end.

But, I still have more photos from Utah to share. A few highlights from Moab, culminating in a colorful visit to Capitol Reef.

I spent a big part of my childhood in Price, UT, not that far from where your pics are. I sure miss the high desert. You have some wonderful photos here.

Lovely scenery. Those mushrooms look like upside down legs to me in that first shot. ;-)

My goodness, what a wondrous area! I love all the wonderful shapes and holes and cliffs, wow! I'm so glad that we can see so much of the world through blogging. I'm sure I couldn't ever see so much just traveling around. Thanks for linking up to My Corner of the World!

Sharon - I agree - mushrooms, not needles! Love the 'waves' in the rocks!

Many of these pictures could be from central Australia - similar shapes and colours. Give me six months and I'll be going there, so you can see some pictures for yourself!!

The scenery is simply incredible. Hard to contemplate that one day all these formations will be ground to sand by the wind.

Wonderful series...how I wish I would have gotten to travel more when younger. I can see mushrooms, too, now that you mention it. I so would have loved to wander around this area.
