The Woods

We picked up a major score while shed hunting in the Wisconsin woods last weekend. A pair of antlers from a 4-5 year old deer. Probably male. Ha!

I felt compelled to add this unflattering photograph of moi for size and scale. Not my size, however - (I look like a plump pumpkin) the size of my rack.

Hmmm. Wait a minute. The size of the rack in hand!

The grave marker for our cat baby.

We were being watched. I love this photo.

A tick check. My husband found two. Luckily, I didn't find any...yet.

On top of the ridge.

A creepy spine. We found two crime scenes full of matted deer fur.

A fluffy feather.

A glittery antler!

All in all, we found two huge sheds and three small ones. It was a good day in the woods.

You need to be careful to have a safe walk there! It must have been like adventure for you in search of things...

In Finland, they make chandeliers with the antlers...as a lot fall off each year.

Oh the dreaded ticks. They ruin Spring. Hardly use to see any but now each season seems there are more. Hubby came in from garage yesterday and had one. I spray and trying the Creamy Baby Oil because read they don't like that. Looks like some great finds. Have a great week.

Ugh! The ticks are out in full force here and I just hate that I have to keep checking when we're in the woods. Looks like you had a fun time.

Looks like a perfect day in the woods. Love that grave marker. I should look for something similar with dogs.

Nice rack!! (sorry couldn't resist... can I even say that in this day and age w/o getting in trouble??). Anyway, great post. Seeing the spine makes me wonder who is the top predator? Who's eating those deer? Looks like a great area to hike, and so much fun to find stuff like that.

That was pretty darn funny Sharon. A little exploring can really pay off. I LOVE the marker over your cat's grave. Bittersweet...
Great post Sharon.

We have many deer in our area, often in our unfenced front yard during the winter, but my husband has found only one antler.
Beautiful photos!
Thanks for sharing.
