This is for the birds!

We all know about the tornado devastation in Joplin. But there was also a bad tornado in my hometown that same day. And it was very destructive to the North East of Minneapolis. I was sad for the people's homes. But I never even thought about the animals. That is until an unfortunate article in the Star. Around 180 Blue Herons were killed in a rookery near North Mississippi Regional park. So this post is for the birds. Here are some of my favorite bird photos taken during our Winter trips this year. You might not recognize the Aracari in the first 2 photos. They are a relative of the Toucan.

Beautiful pictures, wonderful birds Sharon. It's so sad seeing what the tornadoes are doing in the US...but I know there are many people in your country that worries about animals. They are our brothers and sisters...they deserve the same respect as we people. At least the devastation in Us comes from nature. In Brazil it comes from people!!!Very sad.

The photos that you share are beautiful.
My heart is very sad though for the innocent animals.
They should not have bad things happen to them.. it isn't fair.
The poor frightened birdies...
gosh,, so sad

Yes your pictures speak volumes. I am so sad for all the devastation and the uncaring attitudes of so many. Your pictures make me realize we cannot afford to stop taking care of our fellow creatures!!!

Sorry about the tornado destruction; my hubby was also fretting about one that recently hit Massachusetts, where he went to college. Hope and pray for those who are now in the process of rebuilding...

That is a bit of news I had not heard, Sharon. Very sad. I was concerned about a little fawn here, that was out in the open during a thunderstorm with hail.

Sorry to hear about the tornado devastation, Sharon! So sad for the poor unsuspecting birdies. Just the other day, we had to stop to pick up a large turtle that was almost ran-over by a careless driver!

Your photos speak volumes. They are so bright and clear! Those aracari are so pretty.

that is so sad about the Herons. These storms take a terrible toll on wildlife.
Your photos are fantastic!
